Poppies in the Rain

Abstract painting inspired by my summer roses. 50x40cm

I love making fully abstract paintings, and am inspired by my enviroment, colour and paint itself. In fact all the things that guide me in my more landscape oriented work. In this painting, both late afternoon/early evening light, poppies and rose petals and the shadows and leaves on the dog rose in my garden after rain has swept through are the starting point - summer colours and textures.

I use beautiful quality acrylic paints, mostly Golden acrylic, and Lascaux, and a large variety of brushes and palette knives, to drip, wash, smudge and paint the surface of the canvas, to create a rich and varied painting.

This 50x40cm painting is unframed. It had white painted edges and is strung with picture cord ready to hang.
