Early Spring, English Mud
Abstract impressionist landscape painting.
I walk or cycle most days locally to my studio in rural Kent, it's a patchwork of fields, copses and small lanes. At this time of the year, it's muddy, and the hedgerows are full of dead and growing branches, plants and grasses. I love the richness and diversity of the colours and tones, and the promise of a new season. This painting is a response to what I see around me.
I use top quality Golden acrylics, and spend time layering the canvas with many shades of paint, flicking, using a palette knife, brushes rags and allowing paint to drip down the canvas in order to create a rich textured paint surface.
This 40x100cm landscape painting is unframed. It has white painted edges, and is strung with picture cord ready to hang.
